🗞️ Corriere della Sera

One of Italy's most influential newspapers, centre leaning, Corriere della Sera suggests that Trump will likely disrupt EU relations by negotiating directly with individual countries.

He has returned like the Count of Monte Cristo, appearing even more coarse, vulgar, and aggressive. He ignored his advisors' counsel.

🗞️ La Repubblica

With a progressive, centre-left perspective, La Repubblica comments that Americans’ aspirations have shifted; many now hope simply to maintain their current status, unlike the growth-focused ambitions of previous generations.

Women did not unite behind Harris; young people and Hispanics sided with the tycoon. The 2024 vote dissolves identity politics.

🗞️ Avvenire

A Catholic-focused publication, Avvenire argues that the perception of a divided America is largely manufactured by political leaders and media. It suggests that Kamala Harris lost voters who do not strictly follow party lines but want to feel heard as individuals, not as members of demographic groups. Trump, they say, recognises this, but it is unclear if his policies will reflect this understanding.

There are hundreds of thousands of Americans who are economically progressive but conservative on moral issues, or vice versa.

🗞️ Il Post

An online newspaper with a left-leaning stance, Il Post notes that Trump’s victory offers right-wing Italian politicians a chance to realign with his ideology, which may push Italian politics further right. Also, Trump's protectionist stance, particularly regarding potential tariff increases on EU goods, poses significant risks to the Italian economy, which heavily relies on exports.

The protectionist policy that Trump has said he wants to implement aggressively […] makes it more expensive for Italian industries to export their products to the United States, which is Italy's second largest trading partner after Germany.
